China private PMI beats at 52.0, Japan at 7-month low
क्या हुआ
Two factory surveys for October came out this morning in Asia (both from S&P Global):
• China (RatingDog PMI): 52.0, compared to 52.1 in September and an estimate of 51.6. This marks the 11th consecutive month above 50; output grew at the fastest pace since April, but export order growth was the slowest in three months. Factories cut prices due to competition and business confidence fell to a 9-month low
• Japan: 53.3, compared to 54.1 in September. This is a 7-month low, yet still well above 50. Raw material costs (oil, raw materials) rose sharply for the first time in five months
On Saturday, China's official (NBS) manufacturing PMI came in at 49.3, meaning below 50. The two surveys are showing different pictures.
इसका मतलब
China has two PMIs: the official NBS version (3,000+ companies) and the private RatingDog version (around 650 companies, with more focus on export-oriented firms). That's why the two readings often differ.
China is Australia's largest trading partner, so China's data is considered important for AUD and the yuan. Rising costs in Japan become part of the Bank of Japan's policy thinking, which has an impact on the yen.
Lesson: When there are two different surveys for the same country, look at both, and read the internal components (new orders, prices, confidence) along with the headline. This is for understanding, not buy/sell advice.
