Gold's Week: 3.6% drop on Friday, close near $3,876 (Weekly wrap 31 Oct 2026)
On Friday 30 Oct 2026, gold's decline deepened further as the US session drew to a close. According to Trading Economics, spot gold ended the day near $3,875.8 per ounce, down about 3.6% from the previous day (around $4,021); this is the lowest level since October 2025. In last night's 9:30 PM (IST) post, gold was around $3,898, meaning the slide continued even after that. Weekly and monthly tally (through Friday close): • COMEX gold futures (Yahoo Finance data): Last Friday $4,007.9 → This Friday $3,884.9, down about 3.1% for the week • Spot gold: Down about 7.2% over the past month (Trading Economics) • Gold is now about 31% below the January 2026 all-time high (around $5,608, Trading Economics) • Silver: Fell about 6.2% on Friday to approximately $48.9; down about 19% over the past month Reasons according to Trading Economics: High US inflation data (September PCE at 3.6% annually) and elevated energy prices fueling expectations that US rates will stay higher for longer; heavy selling in tech shares (Nasdaq down about 3.5% on Friday), which according to Trading Economics' assessment may have triggered forced selling and margin calls; and weak physical gold demand in Asia.
